    I understand your concerns and they are quite valid.  There was a
terrible accident at a county fair a couple of years back.  There were bears
performing in an enclosure mere yards away from the horse arena.  there had
been some minor spooks from riding horses when they growled but not anything
too upsetting.  Then came the draft horse hitches 6 teams in the ring, when
one team decided they were not comfortable with the bears proximity and
bolted.  They had been a quiet team and "had seen the world".   Several
people had to think fast to keep the entire ring from coming apart.  When
the dust settled 1 man was dead, 2 severely injured, wagons and harnesses
broken and damaged.
    However, the exotic animal man may be ok and you can work with him.
Remember this is how many non-horsey people see our horses coming into their
community.  Maybe if this person were approached friendly like and explained
the concerns.
    It would certainly be a great de spooking clinic opportunity!
