We too had a problem with the cruppers that came standard with harness. On both sets of harness we use for Kilar, we had to get replacement cruppers. Not a problem with the draft harness, we just asked Smuckers to replace the standard size with a slightly larger 'small draft' size for no cost. The harness had been custom fitted and guaranteed to fit the horse (free adjustments) Getting a nice crupper for the light harness was a little more difficult, but we found one that was soft enough to reshape without any problems. It could be a problem to find one if you don't have a harness shop you can actually LOOK in - catalogs are nice, but you really don't know what you're getting until you get get it. Good luck, but if it is a buckle in crupper, you should be able to find one to fit better at most driving tack shops.

We purchased a harness for our 12 year old Flord Mare so she would be able to pull our sleigh and the Cruper that came with it was so small and hard.

Hi Sharon,
I believe the crupper is very necessary to hold the harness in place. If your crupper buckles on, I would think you could order one from any harness maker. If it is permently attached, then there is a bit more to getting the right size. Perhaps you could soak it and reshape it larger. Not knowing what your acess is to a harness maker is, that is just a thought.
