An observation I made when I was showing dogs was that if you looked at the
*people* primping and preening over their showdogs (including myself) a
point could be made about how grossly imperfect those humans were.  300 lb
people trotting Pomeranians and Pekingese. Tiny women posing their
Rottweilers.  Bucktoothed people showing the judge the perfect teeth of
their dog.  Maybe our desire for the perfect animal is in compensation for
how imperfect we are.  We can't go back and select our parents or the traits
we wish we had so we try to engineer where we can.
