My Belgian cross ex-therepy horse was real clumsy...until I started putting obsticles in his run! Poles, small cross bars, stumps, plastic bags tied together etc. He learned to watch where he is going, pick up his feet etc with no help from me. (bags strung across the run will break away easily. Not a chance of getting tangled up in them). Getting to the grain bucket and hay bag was enough incentive for him! This also works with horses who won't cross water. Just lay out and anchor a tarp with a couple ground poles, run a trickle or water across it and you have an instant water hazard! Doesn't take long to completely desensitize them to the feel and sound of both tarp and water!
