Re Your Post on Fjord Digest - # 193
"Team Hitch Observation"
Ron thanks for the questions on my Hitch.
So let me explain ---- What appears in that photo to be a check rein is a
Clinton Anderson halter, (you know thin ropes with the be- nice knots over the
nose) With these I insist that my Fjords behave and they get accustomed to
behaving. I use these halters under the bridle (during practice or a clinic,
not a show) and they are not shown well in that picture. I do not use check
reins. My Fjords don't need them. Again, it is because they are accustomed to
behaving well.
The pole in the photo is hooked in a bolt-on manner described in Lynn Miller's
Workhorse Handbook, page 179. It is also is described in Steve Bower's book
Farming With Horses, page 63. You have been around my hitch a number of times
and never given me this criticism.
You should come by my ranch someday and I will let you drive my 8 horse Fjord
hitch. It could be super exciting. Maybe bring your nitro tablets.
