Lisa, I bet you don't have those engine block heater in your vehicles to plug in and warm up the engine so the will start at -20! I know those cold temps can be daunting when you are not prepared for it.

I have a 100 gallon stock tank insulated in a plywood box lined with 2"Blue styrofoam and sitting on 2" of Styrofoam It has a cover with a hole at each end big enough to allow the horses to drink. The tank heater is a large aluminum ring, 1500 watts, that sits on the bottom. The tank will not freeze even at -50 and below with the heater and will stay liquid without the heater down to -10. Some hardy souls around here ride their Bicycles even at -50: special grease, etc. especial at the university, where parking is such a problem!

From looking the pictures you and Colorado folks have sent showing their Fjords in the snow, I can see that my Fjords have adapted to this Alaska climate with about twice the thickness of fur that yours have.

Aren't you gonna thank me for sending all that nice arctic air down there?

Jean in Fairbanks, Alaska, still mild at +2 degrees

 Hi List !

At almost 11 AM, it is -12 outside. Down to -20 last night. We got another
30 hrs of snow the other day and night, and now ice is the biggest problem. I
hear that it was snowing as far S. as Las Vegas. Most of the day is devoted
to animal care, but everyone is doing well.....even the flock of guinea hens.
All of the extra $$$$$$$$ we spend on every critter having heated water troughs
is worth it.
