This message is from: "Curtis Pierce" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi, If each Fjord is different, then what makes them a Fjord Horse? Every horse in a breed has characteristics that categorize them as part of the breed. Some generalized characteristics are good and some are bad. Some generalized characteristics are correct and some are false impressions. One list of the generalized characteristics for the Fjord Horse is the breed standard. The NFHR Evaluation is a tool for measuring how close an individual Fjord Horse is to the breed standard.
Some of the characteristics Carol Naveta Rivoire mentioned may be false impressions, but some may be true for the majority of Fjord Horses. Carol was very correct that each Fjord Horse is an individual and may or may not have all of the generalized characteristics. As her examples show, some Fjord Horses may be stoic and a few may not be stoic. I agree that we must be careful about making generalizations, but it is human nature to generalize. If we did not generalize and categorize, then, there would not be a Fjord Horse breed or any other breed. Regards, Curt Pierce Mathias, WV www.deepcreekfjords.com PS. I know of a real nice gelding for sale that generally drives real well and has been ridden some. Contact me for more info. The FjordHorse List archives can be found at: http://tinyurl.com/rcepw
