This message is from: "dfle" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I do understand Kimberly's decision. I had a similar situation last year. My very favorite (and first purchase) mare came down with what we thought was colic -- then the University vets thought she was getting colitis. Finally four days later I found her flat in extreme pain (after what we thought was recovery) and we took her to the University Vet hospital. They thought surgery could save her -- $3,000 - $5,000. I agreed. When they opened her up, they called, her secum had collapsed into her intestine and the bill would be $8,000 - $10,000 if no complications, which they then listed all the complications including possibly paralysis, etc. I said "I'm sorry, but that's more than I can afford." I felt very bad, but we do have to make tough decisions. Later my local country vet told me that sometimes if the horse survive this surgery (which involves replacing a part of the intestine), the same problem will reoccur again in 6-8 months. He told me I made the right dec! ision. I'm not sure. It was a very difficult decision. She was due to foal in the summer. I still miss her.
