ZDF, one of the German networks, had a whole hour special on him and on the festivities, which began with a church service in the Oslo Cathedral, and will continue all week. He is much loved by the Norwegian people and said what he wanted for his birthday was something for the Norwegian people. The Storting (parliament) gave him a statue of his mother, a Swedish princess on the grounds of the royal palace; he had tears in his eyes when it unveiled.
