This message is from Phillip Odden in self defense. Showing horses at Villa Louis can be intimidating if you let your mind run wild. The horses are getting better every year and the carts and carriages seem to be noticably nicer each year. It takes more speed in the timed cones to be in the ribbons, you have to make a good plan and drive boldly in the gamblers choice and then you better have a good clock and plenty of luck to come in within a second or two of the optimal time on the cross country especially if Markus is in the class. In the ring classes such as the working pleasure and the reinsmanship you have to have a horse that can hold its own against some pretty flashy stock. You need a horse that moves big, moves free, has nice tempo and suspension and one that holds the eye of the judge and the eye of the public. The horse better have three good trots and a flat footed walk that reminds you of Marilyn Monroe. All these things are important at Villa Louis. Now I can understand why a woman would like a nice hat. I enjoy looking at the hats women wear especially if they have a big sparkling smile underneath the hat. Ever since I reached the age of majority I have enjoyed wearing wide brim hats myself. Hats are getting more interesting all the time. I try to make a habit of complimenting women on their nice hats. I can't wait to see Pat's new hat and I will be looking for Linda Syverson Kerr's new hat and I bet Debbie Ulrich will have a new hat too that will just about knock your socks off. But you can bet, that with all the other things to gander at, I won't be looking at anybody's socks at Villa Louis; unless it's the socks on their horse. Be respectful. There has got to be a limit. If you don't like white maybe I can bring along my hand knit red wool ones. Gray, black, white and red are some of my favorite colors. Smedsmo doesn't seem to mind.... but then he's a male. In the list of priorities from, top to bottom, socks is pretty darn close to low level - any way you look at it. Phil the heckled. meaning ' Badgered and tormented' (The American College Dictionary.)
