There have been some great posts about the Fjord getting alfalfa, oats and alfalfa in terms of roughage and concentrates (grain), but not much in the way of response about his loosey goosey manure. A good rule of thumb for switching an equine from one feed to another is to do it over 5-10 days, i.e., slowly. By mixing in a little of the new foodstuff with the usual feed and gradually increasing the new while decreasing the old the horse's system has a chance to adjust without going through the green-rear-end stage, which is uncomfortable for the horse, unpleasant for the people, and possibly harmful to the horse as well (dehydration being a major concern as the manure gets so loose and takes lots of water out of the digestive tract).
