The static discussion is an interesting one for sure.
One thing you can try to do is not wear polyester type of
clothes. Some fabrics are much more static producing than others
are. Cotton is usually pretty good for static. The nylon type outer
shell of a winter coat is really bad.

I've found that spraying the horse lightly with Static Guard, the
same spray you might use to eliminate static cling in your clothing,
before you begin grooming, works fairly well. If your horse is
accustomed to fly spray, he should have no problem with this spray.
