Congratulations Cythia and Teddy! We are very proud of you both. Teddy is one of those awesome combinations of a forward thinking, confident, well-moving horse who is also pretty to look at, that can help change the perception of those who think Fjords can't be competitive. We think that Teddy and Cynthia are a great match and look forward to greater things to come.
Teddy (aka Starfire Chiron) is by BDF Obelisk out of Slomiet, a beautiful mare imported from Holland, granddaughter of (elite) Dutch mare, Sungard and the impressive (preferente) Dutch stallion, Toddy.
While Teddy was doing his thing at the driving show, his dad, Obie, was participating in a Piaffe/Passage clinic with a Spanish Baroque style trainer, Manual Trigo, who came from Costa Rica. Obie was working on perfecting his piaffe "in hand," the beginnings of passage, as well as Spanish Walk, in long lines, in the style of the Spanish Riding School and the French Cadre Noir. We also worked on the same exercises under saddle. Obie worked alongside 10 other horses (two other stallions) the majority being Andalusians, Lusitanos, one Shire and a Paso Fino. Definitely company in which a Fjord is not usually seen. Obie was the star of the clinic! He was very collected and demonstrated that he is really understanding how to carry himself in such extreme collection on his own while keeping the correct rhythm in piaffe. Manuel thought he would be confirmed in piaffe by the next clinic, which will be held in about six weeks. Besides that, he looked so cute with his tail tied up in a Doma Vaquera style knot. actually, he is supposed to look serious, but it really was cute......Wish I had photos! Maybe next time.
We have a full sister to Teddy for sale, Starfire Elektra. She is absolutey beautiful. She is three years old, stands at least 14hh and has wonderful movement. She will be an eye-catcher for sure (already is, actually). She did sustain an injury to her left knee over a year ago. She has a very small bone fragment in her knee, therefore, although she has demonstrated no sign of lameness for over a year (even when she tears around the pasture with her buddies) we cannot guarantee that she will stay sound with regular work. She's just being started now and we will take things slowly.
We also have a 1/2 brother to Teddy, just coming one year old. He is by Thordal out of Slomiet and has serious potential to be a breeding stallion. He is at least 13.3hh (his mother's height) with very nice movement. We can tell already that the canter is going to be a breeze for him. He has his dad's dark coloration and GREAT hair! A thick mane and forelock with a wonderful black stripe and a very thick, curly tail. Very pretty head with a nice eye a well set neck and wonderful throatlatch that allows him to flex easily at the poll. Definitely one to watch.
Congratulations again, Cynthia and Teddy. Keep up the good work! Beth Cynthia Madden wrote:
This message is from: "Cynthia Madden" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Starfire Chiron (aka Teddy) went to his first pleasure show this weekend. We participated as a training opportunity without expectations but Teddy did very well! He placed 2nd in Presentation with my oldest harness and in a metal cart but the judge gave him points for his impulsion and extended trot and we beat much nicer turnouts. I was immensely surprised and pleased. He also won the Maiden Pleasure Working Class and took 3rd in the Championship class. We also took 3rd in Reinsmanship. I was very proud of my boy! The judge really liked his gaits and gave me some ideas for improving his cart's balance, etc. Overall, we did so much better than we anticipated. It was a very small frist show by our club but Teddy, as usual, took it all in stride!
