The short answer is I'm a geek. The long answer is I'm a PhD engineer, and I have taught environmental science, technical science, and physics at the local community college. I have also worked in the fields of industrial chemical production, hazardous waste management, plastics manufacturing, and waste treatment.

No, that really isn't necessary. Information on why and how helmets work is independent of any manufacturer and is fairly easy for anyone to find. A quick Google search tonight turned up this decent article that covers the basics: http://www.bhsi.org/general.htm
