Norwegian Fjords certainly shone at the recent Exhibition/Fair.
The event set new records of attendance which would be 150,00 plus over a
five day period. Trinity Fjords was entered in all driving classes featuring
singles, pairs, tandem, unicorn, and fours plus an amateur fours class.
Thanks to my lady whips, Wanda Gammel, and Julie Pilon, plus our 10 year old
fearless Junior driver, Macey Walton we were able to corral over a dozen
first place ribbons! I drove the multiple classes with the girls all driving
singles and pairs.

I must say this venue did not have the tranquility of a CDE. The
enclosed hitching area was surrounded on one side by various rides, ferris
wheels, and roller coasters. Some 50 feet from us was the sound stage for
the musicians and their loud speakers playing music for the food court.
Luckily, they were pointed the other way with the music.

In the afternoon classes we alternated with the large draft horse classes
so each group had time to change horses and hitches. The small Draft classes
which we were part of were full of Norwegian Fjords from other local owners
as well. It ended up being only Fjord classes. I understand more Fjords are
coming for this event next year.

It was fairly apparent in the show and at the barns the Fjords had the
hearts of the people and families. There were three Heavy Horse pullers up
from the USA who were housed on our barn row. They were all aware of
Norwegian Fjords and respectful of their abilities. We had some good visits
between classes.

We were asked by the IPE Driving committee to put on a 10 minute
demonstration of a CDE event on Sunday afternoon in front of the main
stadium with commentary from the announcer. Driving the four-up we did one
handed circles for Dressage, and then a short cones course at a walk and
canter. With Julie and Wanda as my balancing grooms on the back of the
wagonette we went to a canter performing the hazards as one would do in a
marathon CDE in section E. Much to the delight of the crowd we managed to
throw some dirt and rooster tails on the corners. A little entertainment and
education at the same time. So ended successfully and safely the IPE of
2010.

However I can sincerely say the most talked about horse at the show was
the Gypsy Vanner.
