Kelly: Have a look at Horseguard Bi-Polar Fence. It may be just the ticket. Horseguard is more expensive than the stuff you find at Tractor Supply, but I have fenced two horse properties with it now and have been very happy. And that's with their standard stuff. They came out with the bi-polar after I fenced my second place. Good luck. I know I had problems in Colorado in the summer sometimes because the ground got so dry, and I would put a trickle bucket (5-gallon bucket with a couple of holes drilled low on the side to allow water to seep out) next to the ground rod to keep that area moist. I only managed to get the ground rod in 6 or so feet, so not so deep. Cheers!
