Hello List, I am writing in support of Corinne Logan's post about kids. Like Corinne, I run a lesson program that uses only Fjords and primarily teaches kids. I also sell a number of Fjords each year, my own and consignments, so I see all variety of riders. Just this weekend I had a 10 year old girl riding a very well trained gelding I have for sale. She was doing very well at the W/T/C and jumping. I will have to meet her trainer and have the child ride again to determine how well matched they are as a pair. I definitely agree that kids should be in a program with regular instruction and guidance when riding ANY horse at an early age. I don't think it's a great idea to give a young child ANY horse and think things will take care of themselves. I think 4-H and Pony Club both provide outlets. We have kids doing very well with Fjords in Virginia. I've seen more timid adult riders that were a cause for concern that kids, frankly. I only sell horses to situations where they are suited, and I have had more unsuitable adults than kids cross my path.
