I don't mean to argue a moot point, but, newline is \r. I understood that the XML contains \ and r as text, which when displayed in his textfield showed \r, the text itself, instead of a newline. If you split out \\r and replace it with \r (or newline) it would replace the text \r with a real newline. Sorry for the confusion.
