Great test of NBEMS/FLDIGI tonight... I'm really glad I copied you as I
was bouncing back and forth between 20 and 30.
If you look at the jpg data, you'll see one line of the binary is
shorter, which gives a visual indication of data loss. We really shy
away from pics in WPA. If we do anything at all, it's VERY low res stuff
with MFSK.
One recommendation I'd make is starting out on a slower, more forgiving
mode (with regards to tuning) with which to establish contact. Olivia
8/500 is our starting point and we go to 16/500 Olivia if conditions are
really poor. Olivia is also almost unaffected by QRM and is so forgiving
on tuning that it works perfectly for unmanned monitoring stations as
long as you're somewhere in the ballpark in terms of dial and waterfall
frequencies.
Once you establish contact, and get a feel for band conditions, then you
can move to the faster modes.
I was quite impressed with PSK250R tonight. I really would not have
expected a mode that fast to have held up that well under moderate
conditions on 30m, with static crashes to boot!
