I know that those dependencies don't get mixed-up, but I also know that in one of our projects we do have a dependency management for plugin-dependencies, that's why I suggested not ignoring that.
I recently had some classpath related trouble and found Tattletale (http://www.jboss.org/tattletale) to be a really helpfull tool. Unfortunately this will not help you with classloading Trouble in your builds plugins.
