Have you tried creating the SO server side first? in the applicationStart 
handler maybe, and see if it make any difference?
Maybe also try to check SO.data.length.

Yeah,
It looks broken to me too. I went and tried a simple test and got the 
following error:

TypeError: Error #1009: null has no properties.
    at flex2FMS/flex2FMS::netStatus()

Where do we file bug reports again?
