Well, for 1 and 2 all you need to do is read variables off the URL and then use them in the Flex app. to request the correct image. I'd use JavaScript to set flashVars (using something like SWFObject to generate the wrapper HTML, and the JavaScript document.location property), and then access those via Application.application in the Flash application.
