I have previously lowered the sampling rate and the symptom decreases or ceases. I am running a quad Q8200 CPU with no serious CPU utilization at the sample rate I posted in the bug report. Do you notice motorboating at the sample rate I listed? My question is still unanswered.

I have not seen any response other than yours to the below question:

I have been wondering if I am the only one seeing this. Has anyone used these
settings and they do not experience this?

See below for full details of the bug report and settings.

Subject: Re: [FlexEdge] pb-pal new features vs performance?

I filed a bug report that seems similar to this. The bug report is
http://support.flex-radio.com/ReviewBug.aspx?id=2604&it=B

Report Detail:
If MultiRX selected, multiple receive works correctly. If NR selected with
MultiRX enabled then a motorboating sound occurs. This did not occur on v1.18.3.

2048 buffer size
192k sample rate

DPCs are below 500 usec with NR select. Quad Q8200 CPU.

FireWire driver is 3.5.0.7171
Firmware 2.0.0.3
PowerSDR PB v1.19.3 SVN:3444 on title bar TortoiseSVN reports revision 3462

I have been wondering if I am the only one seeing this. Has anyone used these
settings and they do not experience this?

Thanks, Dudley.

The audio buffer is already at 2048.

Here's some more information:

With pb-pal:

1. At a 192 KHz sample rate and 2048 buffer, I get lots of audio hits
when I turn On /either /ANF /or/ NR /or/ MultiRX.
2. I still get significant hits (although at a less frequent rate),
if I turn the Display Update rate down to 1 Hz.
3. At a 96 KHz sample rate and 2048 buffer, I get significant audio
hits if I turn On ANF /and/ NR, or ANF /and /MultiRX, even with the
Display Update rate turned down to 1 Hz.

With 1.18.4 svn 3432:

1. At a 192 KHz sample rate and 2048 buffer, audio sounds fine with
/both /ANF /and /NR turned On (even though the CPU utilization
percentage is up around 60-70%). I only start getting hits if I have
ANF /and /NR /and/ MultiRX all On. (And under this condition the CPU
utilization display freezes.)

For my PC, I'm using the Dell computer that I purchased from Flex when
I bought my SDR1K ('06?):

    * Pentium 4 CPU, 3.02 GHz.
    * 512 MB RAM

So, I'm wondering what might be the cause of this degradation in
performance and if there's anything I can do to fix it (either in my
PC (do I need more RAM? Or a new PC?), or in SW). Regarding the
software, apart from the addition of Pretty Betty and PAL, I don't
know what else has changed in the code and thus what might be
contributing to this problem -- changes in DttSP, for example? It's
difficult for me to tell from the SVN log, because I don't know if the
changes logged for the pb-pal development correlate exactly with the
SVN log for the non-pb/pal console, and I can no longer access the SVN
log for the non pb/pal console.

Jeff,

Not sure on the audio popping unless the added CPU load is causing so
additional delays, you may need to raise your buffer in the Audio
tab. You should not need to change the FW driver as the Audio tab
change should change the FW buffer, just like the sample rate is
controlled from PowerSDR.. Try raising the audio buffer slightly .
Also as the old saying goes for all Alpha code, " Your mileage may
vary!"

I've just downloaded and tried the pb-pal console. Very nice!
But, I'm having an issue with it, which is: when I click on the
MULTIRX button, I get significant popping and crackling which are
exacerbated whenever I move my mouse.

I notice that CPU percentage has jumped up about 10% points
between the Console I had been using (1.18.4, rev. 3432) and the
pb-pal console, and I was wondering...what features in this new
Console account for this increase in CPU usage? Does anyone know?

     Thanks!
