IC-781 boy, now there's a radio for you. I was really impressed (in the day) by the quad conversion and scope display. Quite good for it's time. The F5k and the Sony sound like a good match to me but I'm not very familiar with Sony products. You may want to look at the following Yahoo
user groups : For DDutil http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DDUtil/
FlexRadio http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FlexRadio/
You will need to "join" the groups, but there is a lot of information there.

In order of time involved in setting up the fore mentioned programs:
DDutil took the most time for me to figure out. It's the one who relays all the information from PowerSDR. Besides connecting me to DM-780, it also control my antenna selection and amplifier. I use a FlexRaio 3000 you have the 5000 so it will be a little different for you. I only have one antenna port. Once you get everything up and running I think that you will find it is all very easy to use.

One of the advantages with Win 7 is that it has a snipping tool which makes it easy to take screen shots. So you can open the different software and capture the setup information into a picture file. I would encourage you to do that. It takes a little time but I have saved all mine and reused them between
PowerSDR releases.

Problem with some ham's is that we for get when to stop talking.

Don,

I also greatly appreciate your help in putting this list together. Normallt I run either an IC-781 with the Microham Keyer and DSP599ZX audio box or an IC-7800 with optical cables to a USB sound card. That computer is set up with the HRD suite and runs XP Home Entertainment. The Flex 500A has been here a little over a week, it is mated to a Sony VAIO Laptop running an I7 processor 3 GB Ram and NVIDIA video along with 500 GB and a Blu Ray player/DVD burner running Win 7 home Dlx. 64 bit. I am also thinking about setting up one of these rigs for WSPR.

Jim

IF anyone has a more correct answer for Jim, please say so - I will not be
offended and may learn a little more.

Are you using Windows? If so what version?

If it was working with 2.0.16 then it should be working with 2.0.19.
I do not know of anything that changed in the communications part of
PowerSDR
just by going to 2.0.19. (( Hey guys, it's time for someone else to step
in here - this part is beyond me))

As far as DDutil, VSPManager and Mini Deluxe goes:

DDutil - is a software program that acts as a traffic controller.
PowerSDR communicates with DDutil and DDutil communicates
with other software programs and hardware devices. DDutil does this
by using virtual serial ports. VSPManager (one of several programs) is used
to set
up virtual serial port pairs.

Mini Deluxe is a software program that allows communications
between PowerSDR and DM-780 without the need for HRD to be running.

There is one other program that is used that I did not mention. That is a
program call VAC - Virtual
Audio Cable. VAC is used to transfer audio tones (needed for PSK, SSTV
etc.) from DM-780 to PowerSDR.

So what this boils down to is that then I want to use digital (cw I think of
as being digital - you know on/off)
I have a batch file that loads several programs.
1. VAC
2. DDutil
3. PowerSDR
4. MiniDeluxe
5. DM-780
6. HDR-Logbook.

Then I'm ready to operate!!

Jim

If I can help any more I will be glad to. However keep in mind that I work
nights and tonight is my "Sunday"
Also this could take more than a single e-mail, and I would be sending
screen shots so please contact me directly
at [email protected] .

Don,

Now I will show u how stupid I am

DDutil not sure

VSPManager I think is used by Flex SDR

Mini-Delux not sure what that is but I don't think I am using

It was working very good with 2.0.16 but there are changes now
with 2.0.19?

It is not my main rig so I don't use it all of the time....

Jim

I'm responding off the Flex site because it's not directly related to
Flex.
In cw mode I use MCW instead of the CW(KY CMD).

However my system may be different than yours.

I will help if I can. I'm wondering what other software your are using
besides PowerSDR and DM-780?

Are you using DDutil?, vspMangaer? or Mini-Deluxe?

Don,
I am new to Flex and DM780
But for some reason when I am trying to send CW from the keyboard
With Flex 3000 and DM780 it takes a long time before transmit starts
...

I am sure it is a setting
Not sure ? I have DM760 in CW(KY CMD)

Is there some information on internet on how to set up DM780 with FLEX
?

Actually I'm just using DM-780 Ver 5.0 Beta build 2777. I've just
noticed
that it now seems to decode better.
I could be incorrect though, maybe conditions are just improving.
