Question for Dudley,

I just tested my F5K on HF and verified mine to be -24dBm in DS

When I test my VHF it shows -60dBM
When I test my UHF it shows -53dBM

Does this mean my V/U is not setup correctly?

Dudley-
Thanks for your comment on the AGC-T. Now that I have had a chance to play with it, I have the AGC-t set around -73.

The built in sig gen is dead on -24 dBm Looks like we have a good cal.

I understand there is a huge difference between the Flexx and IC735. That's why I bought the Flex. I fully believe SDR is the way of the future for all radios. I was just surprised that I was able to hear a station above the noise better with the 735.

With the antenna unplugged I am seeing the baseline noise on RX1, with the preamp off: -110dbm, with the preamp on: -124 dBm. RX2 is about the same. I have been focused on the 20M SSB band (around 14.188 14.202). But it seams to be effecting all the bands. I have high noise on 40, 20, 17, 15, 12, & even 10M. By high noise i mean I am seeing around S7 with preamp off and S5 with preamp on. During the daylight this was S8 and S6. Just noticed that the preamp is 'always on' in the 10M band. I don't have a 6M antenna, nor a reliable 80 or 160M antenna to give you a reading on.

If I do have a strong signal near by, would you suggest a high pass or low pass filter on my antenna feedline?

Steve,

One thing I noticed is that you had your AGC-T too high.. -99 is too high for most normal listening, again depends on how you are using it , but most find the background noise really drops down around -70 or lower..

To check your level, go to the Test tab of the Setup menu, select the Enable HW generator in the lower left corner. In any Ham band and with the receiver passband covering the zero beat signal , or use DSB, you should have a -24 dbm signal right on zero.. This will tell you how well the levels are calibrated..

The Flex radios are much different from your 735, What is your noise level with the antenna disconnected or into the dummy load? And what band are you seeing this? You may be experiencing some sort of noise mixing with a strong local signal or local noise..

Has anyone experienced a high noise level from their flex compared to other radios in the shack?

I'm running a Flex 5K (with 2nd RX and ATU, but they are off or bypass), SDR 2.2.2. I am seeing about a S8 level of noise with the preAmp off and a S6 with the preAmp on. This seams backwards to me as my ICOM735 raises the noise level when I switch the preAmp on. For reference, the AGC-T is 99, NR on, 14.200MHz SSB with a BW of 2.4K.

If I move the antenna coax to my ICOM 735 the noise level is S1 with the preAmp off.

Any ideas?
