Dave,
There are FireWire over Fiber Optic cable that could extend your distance
about 1km, however they are not cheap, nor is 1km of fiber optic cable, or
getting permission/permits to run it to your house, assuming this tower is
closer than 1km. Also, audio, PTT, and CW key lines would need to be run,
also very challenging. FireWire over broadband network would not work. Far
too much latency. So running PowerSDR on a local computer at your house is
not a feasible option.

To do a remote install, you would need a computer at the tower, AND a
computer back at your house. PowerSDR runs on the 'tower' computer. You then
use remote desktop, VNC, or some other remote control software to log in to
the 'tower' computer from your 'home' computer and use the software
remotely. Audio gets piped through skype, IP-Sound or some other audio over
internet application. Alternatively, you could setup an RF link to pump
audio over to the computer, probably via 222 or 432 MHz FM. (or .9GHz or
1.3GHz depending on price or availability of gear or uncoordinated spectrum
in your area.) A PL tone could possibly be used for PTT. Assuming you
could establish a reliable RF the tower site; this method would likely
yield better quality audio, and with lower latency than piping over
internet.

These are just some ideas I had. I have not tried them, your own creativity
will be needed to experiment with different solutions. There are others out
there who are using their Flex radios as remote stations
Here are some videos on the Flex web page:

SDR blog that discusses Remote:

Plenty of ways to skin this cat...

Best of Luck.

Subject: [FlexEdge] Flex 5000A Remote Control???

Can you operate the 5000A remote? There's a tower outside of town that I
can use. I was thinking about a Flex 500A there at the radio location and
use PowerSDR on a local computer at the house, over a broadband Internet
connection. Is that feasible and if so, how would you do it?

Thanks much!!

dave :)
