Ted, I am strongly considering a SHUTTLE SH67H3 PC Barebone System, available at Amazon.com for $250. I am building this specifically for the Flex and don't plan on using it for anything else. Although it's a desktop system, if you look at the size of the box you'll see that it sits easily on top of a Flex 5000 with room to spare. I plan on moving the SIIG graphic card that I am already using and adding a small, single slot graphics card because I want four monitors - this will allow me to up to five monitors using the on-board graphics. It has an on-board serial port for tuner control. I plan on using a solid state drive for speed and a second hybrid drive for backup and general storage. The processor in this system can be anything from an i3 to an i7 - I haven't decided yet because any one of those will beat my quad core, which is running PowerSDR just fine at present. The system supports up to 16 gigabytes of RAM.
So, what I hope to end up with is a powerful system that could be portable, takes up little space on the desktop, and plays very nice with PowerSDR and the Flex. I am not expecting to save any money as I could probably buy a Neal Campbell custom system for less. However, I don't have enough frustrating distractions in my life so I thought I would tackle one more. I am willing to share information once I get underway with this thing. Also, I am open to comments and suggestions. 73, Steve, W6SDM -- Steve Miller w6sdm.net _______________________________________________ Flexedge mailing list [email protected] http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexedge_flex-radio.biz This is the FlexRadio Systems e-mail Reflector called FlexEdge.
