Dudley: I paid a few bux more for my Rb standard, and got one where the "bulb" was not near end of life. There is a bulb voltage measurement on each unit, and if I remember correctly, the higher the voltage the more life that is left. Most of the Rb sources seem to be out of China. I got mine from a highly rated seller. If you email the sellers, they can probably get you a unit with a longer bulb life.
I too looked at a GPS disciplined standard; but, felt that it presented too many issues for me. The biggest issue is getting the GPS antenna to the outside. Our house has radiant heat in the ceiling and in order to get to the outside, I have to dodge radiant heat pipes. When we had our kitchen remodeled, the workmen drilled thru a pipe....water was everywhere! What a mess. Had a challenging time getting my 450 ohm line for the HF antenna to the outside. The 1500 starts with a 38.4 mhz TCXO, the 10 mhz reference is doubled to 20 mhz. It's going to be really hard to compare those two against a third calibrated source. I would think that the RB is much more accurate, particularly over time.. _______________________________________________ Flexedge mailing list [email protected] http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexedge_flex-radio.biz This is the FlexRadio Systems e-mail Reflector called FlexEdge.
