After a lot of tweaking, I did finally get a Teamviewer/Skype setup working last year with my Flex-3000. I found it very difficult to use. PowerSDR is designed for a traditional desktop PC, so it's not surprising that it doesn't provide a tablet-friendly GUI. When I saw an announcement this morning about the Android app, I was impressed when I had it installed on my tablet and was listening to 20 meters using KL7NA's SDR literally 2 minutes later. It seems like I should be able to connect it to my own SDR sitting out there on my house Ethernet. So, my question is -- Has anyone tried to integrate their Flex 1500/3000/5000 into this kind of SDR system - specifically the GHPSDR3 architecture? GHPSDR3 is an open project for network-capable SDRs which is client/server, multiplatform, uses published protocols over TCP/UDP/IP on Ethernet and USB, and has a collection of people writing interesting code like this Android app I just found. Integrating a Flex would imply writing a Flex-specific "dspserver" module, which is the component that interfaces between the Flex SDR and the Ethernet. I can imagine such a thing might be a variant of PowerSDR, or even an outboard program that interfaces to the standard PowerSDR via CAT/VAC (similar to how a digital mode program works now in the Flex system.) I've also been musing about getting back to writing some code (but unfortunately I don't do Windows). I do a lot of contesting, and have some ideas about what a "ContestSDR" GUI might look like. It would be fun to try out those ideas, and the Android (or Ipad) environments with the GHPSDR3 client/server components seem to be likely candidates. There's one overwhelming advantage and attraction -- the pieces exist today (and I already have the needed hardware). The missing link is the Flex/dspserver software module. This would not be to replace PowerSDR, which is still the most capable general software for use with the Flex. But I have little hope that PowerSDR will ever have "ContestSDR" features. Fortunately, computers are good at running different programs for different activities. It would be interesting to try out some other GUIs. I suppose I could do this by just buying some HPSDR hardware, but I'd rather see if I can use my Flex-3000 somehow. Has anyone gone down this path? 73, /Jack de K3FIV _______________________________________________ Flexedge mailing list [email protected] http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexedge_flex-radio.biz This is the FlexRadio Systems e-mail Reflector called FlexEdge.
