I've used my Dell "Mini-9" with aFlex-1500 - it's a duo core, 1.86 GHz CPU with 2 Gb RAM, Windows XP. It works but...
1. I have to optimize it by turning off every program / service it doesn't need and run only PowerSDR. I can also run Fldigi, but nothing else. 2. The small screen will not display the full PowerSDR window, the screen resolution is too small. #2 will be a problem with many netbooks because of the screen resolution. I would deem my use of the lower end Dell netbook "usable" scenario, but not necessarily a sucess since it cuts off the lowest portion of the PowerSDR window. I am able to use it to make contacts, however. There was a long thread about the "white noise" here a while back. I have experienced it even on my i7 CPU desktop that normally runs between 3-5% CPU usage running PowerSDR, Fldigi, web browser and a logging program. Try this: 1. Set the power saver mode to "High Performance" - but don't trust Windows, I think "High Performance" is only a profile name - go look at all of the power settings and make sure none of them will put the system to sleep or power off the USB ports. 2. Go into the Windows device manager and look at the USB port settings - make sure everything is set to keep power on the USB ports. 3. Turn off ALL Windows services and extra programs you don't need, and don't run any extra programs like a web browser. I won't claim it's gone forever, but I've not experienced the "white noise" since doing the above. I have seen it on three other PC including AMD dual cores.. I have been told that it is a 1500 firmware problem.. Simply turning off the 1500 and restarting it >(no power off or restarting from scratch) cures this problem.
