Latency is the reason we have not yet enabled working over a VPN, but not the reason it doesn't work. We use a protocol that generally does not cross a VPN (on purpose). If you know what you are doing with networks, it can be made to work, but unless you have a low latency network (most home networking VPN would not fall in this category), you won't be pleased with the results. Plus there is no audio, so you could see but not hear yet. We will tackle remote in the future which necessarily includes latency compensation and remote audio.
