That is nasty behavior on DX4WIN's part. I am sure it is sending an unimplemented request and then busy waiting on the port for the reply that never arrives before it times out. NASTY programming if true and let me emphasize: this is a guess only.

Hi all,
One of the thing I noticed when using the DX4Win program with the
virtual com port is that the CPU usage goes way up. Normally I run about
2% as a low figure and 10% as a high usage figure. When the DX4Win is
set up to use the virtual com port CPU usage varies from 3.7% to 60%
about every 4 seconds. This slows the computer way down although the
programs work. I had set up DX4Win for a TS2000. I will keep working on
this.

Hi Dale,

When this happens can you look at the Processes tab in Task Manager
and see what process is using the CPU time? Look at the System
process, the PowerSDR process, and the DX4Win process to see which one
is using the CPU time. This will help me determine if it is the
system thread in the driver or something else.

Phil,
The SDR is using 37, 774K memory usage while the DX4Win is using 5996K
memory usage.

Hi Dale,

I meant the CPU usage in % in Task Manager for each process.
I think that DX4WIN is sending or expecting a CAT command periodically
that hasn't been implemented yet in the CAT code. I installed DX4WIN
and I think I see what you are talking about with the CPU usage. It
seems to be DX4WIN that is spiking the CPU usage. This should be
corrected as support for more CAT commands are added to PowerSDR
console.

Phil,
The SDR usage is fairly steady at 04% while the DX4Win starts at 00, then 27, 49, 50 and then 27 then 00% and repeats.
