Hi

Just a newcomer to this reflector. Got a SDR-1000 at Dayton. Been
playing
around in the ANARTS RTTY contest.

Managed to get the SDR working with N1MM + MMTTY. Except for output
power
and speed the combo works equal if not better than my normal SO2R setup.

Running ( Calling CQ) is no problem. S&P (Search and Pounce) on the
other
hand is not so good. Tuning to the new station, then sending my call
requires switching active windows. Several times found myself fouled up
trying to be quick on the trigger. Is there some way to make the windows
smaller? The console takes up too much display space when other programs
are be used.

The trick I found was to invert the PTT in MMTTY and thus use the
"bit-Bang" (What ever that means) setting in the CAT window of the SDR
consol. This allowed N1MM to control the transmitter and the AFSK output
from MMTTY. Ran in the CW mode with a 1kHz setting for the CW note. Mousing
on the rtty signals brought them into the MMTTY window a 1kHz. MMTTY locked
right in. Hitting the function keys in N1MM LOGGER sent my call/ exchange
etc. Normally use the keyboard exclusively during contests. At present my
ability to switch keyboard control between the two pieces of software is
poor and tend to cause confusion.

When running no problem as stated. For all intensive purposes one can
ignore the SDR consol. The AFC control in MMTTY locks the signal even it
the caller is slightly off frequency. I keep the xmit frequency stationary
(Net=OFF). During S&P, keep AFC and NET OFF. Use the keyboard and mouse to
tune the station. This means I'm zero beat with the station being called.

Have had no luck in getting N1MM to read the SDR frequency, so far. Does
the SDR emulate any of the other commercial radios ? Also the software
complains about the virtual port being open when I start N1MM. What can one
do to eliminate this software complaint?

Enjoying the learning process. Hope to be on the air soon with
a legal
limit signal.
