The "wierd mic jack" was used on lots of radios including the Drake
TR-7's. I have repaired many TR-7s for a variety of ills but NEVER for a
bad mike plug or jack. The 4 pin has enough connections for Mic and PTT so
my vote is keep it. Available at RS and other friendly local
suppliers. The second candidate would be the XLR series as the broadcast
and musical industries have abused millions of them over the years and they
still work. Bit more pricey.
My SDR has a broken minijack for the Speaker output so I get Mono (left I
think but at least its my good ear) and I haven't gotten around to taking
the sandwich apart to change it. Banish the 1/8 mini crap.
