I've been getting some nice reports using the PR-40 through the W2IHY EQPlus
box. Easy to set up and works great.

Title: Microphone recommendations
Tim,

I am using a Marshall MXL-2003 condenser microphone here. It is connected to an Aphex 107 microphone preamp. The audio then goes to an equalizer and then an Aphex Compellor to stabilize the audio levels a bit and reduce the dynamic range. It is then fed to the balanced input of the D-44. It is a line level audio signal and I have a few MP3's that I could send you to listen to the audio quality. The reports have been very good.

At the other end of the scale, I have a healthy respect for the Astatic D104 microphone. When they are used properly, they sound very good. I have a circuit for a small preamp that will fit into the bottom of the stand that will bring the output up to line level and I will be trying that soon. I do not expect it to measure up to the condenser microphone but I do expect that it will be better than most communications audio that is heard.

I hope that helps.

Subject: [Flexradio] Microphone recommendations

I finally ordered my SDR-1000 yesterday (yippee!)  and I am eagerly awaiting its arrival.

In the mean time, I wanted to ping the group on microphone types to use with the SDR-1000.  I'll be using the Delta 44 and will feed the mic directly into the soundcard.

I noticed some where on the Flex-radio web site that there is a reference to using dynamic Heil microphones and was wondering what the good, the bad and the ugly was on using dynamic mics.  Do they drive the soundcard without having to use a preamp?

Also, what experiences have people had with condenser and computer mics /headsets?
