I've been getting some nice reports using the PR-40 through the W2IHY EQPlus box. Easy to set up and works great.
73 Greg AB7RTitle: Microphone recommendations
Tim,
I am using a Marshall MXL-2003 condenser microphone
here. It is connected to an Aphex 107 microphone preamp. The audio then goes to
an equalizer and then an Aphex Compellor to stabilize the audio levels a bit and
reduce the dynamic range. It is then fed to the balanced input of the D-44. It
is a line level audio signal and I have a few MP3's that I could send you to
listen to the audio quality. The reports have been very good.
At the other end of the scale, I have a healthy
respect for the Astatic D104 microphone. When they are used properly, they sound
very good. I have a circuit for a small preamp that will fit into the bottom of
the stand that will bring the output up to line level and I will be trying that
soon. I do not expect it to measure up to the condenser microphone but I do
expect that it will be better than most communications audio that is
heard.
I hope that helps.
