Well put!

Since I wax prophetic this morning….

I think certain of us ‘see’ the complexity and also the wonder of the business model at work here. It wouldn’t ‘work’ in all situations, but certainly works for this (current) small market venture. I think I am as fascinated by the model, as I am the radio. I certainly hope that Gerald is working on V2 hardware, whatever he decides to call it, and expands the market share beyond ‘aging’ Ham Radio market. The implications of this concept are astounding!  The voluntary contributors even more so!

It is like a ‘flywheel’. EVERYONE who buys the radio perpetuates the Company and the hardware paradigm. They instantly become contributors even if the only action is to purchase the radio. That perpetuates the company as in a traditional model. Others adding weight to the outer edges of the flywheel by contributing code , supporting hardware etc, for free. Payment, only in recognition or just the pride in doing it keep accelerating it or just BEING a part of something exciting. Something I think many of us ‘saw’ in amateur radio in the first place. Why most of us stuck our fist into ‘tar baby’.! None is really more important to keep the paradigm accelerating, the mass in the center or the developers at the edge! Users helping users via the forum, Teamspeak, Reflector a week after they tried the ‘latest innovation’ successfully, and sharing their knowledge immediately and giving their time. This paradigm shift and progress is NOT $ driven. Payment is in just being involved!

It is a fragile balance, but dependent on your last sentence.

Back to Belize trip preps.

Subject: Re: [Flexradio] Spectrum vs. Histogram CPU Load

I want to thank everyone for the prompt responses to my query.  What a great bunch of folks.

Gerald, you’ve got a unique design, a unique business model, exceptional employees and a

dedicated group of volunteers.  Something money just can’t buy.  Please stay with your vision

and don’t sell out.

It’s so exciting to have such a high performance hardware platform with the availability of

open source code.  You have put homebrewing back into ham radio for those that want it

and also a nice package for those that just want to use it.

I look forward to contributing to the future growth of FlexRadio.

73,

John
