Just in case there may be still some confusion, Microsoft is offering the Express Editions for free.  They are not time limited - they will run forever.

You can say that again. I use Visual C++ 6.0 (circa 1998) for all my
Windows development. And for the kind of work I do, I don't feel any
real need to upgrade. But I certainly wouldn't expect or recommend
anyone who wants to start programming modern Windows applications to
get VC6 just because I'm happy with it.

Now, for the first time, you can get free ("as in beer") Visual Studio
Express Editions. Making PowerSDR compatible with these tools will
probably enable a much larger group of people than ever before to
start experimenting with the source code. But maybe we can't have
that, because someone likes (or at least has paid for) his earlier
version of Visual Studio.

Of course, changes required to PowerSDR source between .NET 1.1 and
2.0 are trivial, as Phil already pointed out, and probably even the
beginning programmer can learn how to make them. But having to do that
with every new version that comes out is simply a nuisance.

OK, maybe we can have it both ways. Let the official PowerSDR binary
release remain .NET 1.1, but simply modify the source to make it
compatible with the Visual Studio 2005 Express tools as well. But
those modifications really have to be in the official PowerSDR source
code instead of everyone having to make them on their own.

It will probably require nothing more complex than a couple of
#ifdef's, but I'll let someone more knowledgeable in .NET (Phil?)
comment on this.
