The contemplation is mainly because....this is what the Synchronous ('S' in
SAM) detector is supposed to do.  

What I'd really like to do is to understand why SAM doesn't work like we'd
expect (or at least not as well to the ear) and see what we could do to get
it to naturally sound like how the hardcore AMers would like it to (I'm
assuming here that everyone is wanting the same sound....that is likely a
stretch).  In fact, if some of you could explain what it is that you don't
like about the plain jane SAM detection in the main console, we'd love to
hear it, so that we can improve things.
