Everett,

I went through this same evolution about 6 months ago. I'm a firewire dummy
so I don't know the difference between a "400" and an "800" but I can tell
you this. I bought four different "off-the-shelf" PCMCIA Firewire cards at
various stores like CompUSA, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. to use with a
Compaq EVO N-610C notebook computer (that did not have a Firewire port) and
Presonus Firebox that I have on one of my SDR-1000's.

All of the cards worked fine in the computer and all cards worked equally
well with the Firebox and SDR-1000. I could tell no difference in
performance between any of the cards.

The brand names on three of them were Compaq, HP, and Belkin. I don't
remember the fourth as I gave it away. They were all made in
China....probably at the same factory and probably are all exactly the same
inside.

Which one did I use? The Belkin - only because its color scheme matches
everything :-))).

That's my experience. Again, I'm a Firewire dummy so that's all I can tell
you based on my experience.

Subject: [Flexradio] Recommended firewire cards for laptops ?

Hello,

I just ordering a FA-66 for my SDR-1000.
My computer is a Dell laptop Inspiron 600m without
a firewire port.

Is there a list of recommended firewire cards for
laptop computers? On the knowledge base
I only see cards for desktops.

I notice there are both "400" (1394a) and "800" (1394b) firewire cards.
Does this matter?

Thanks,

Everett Palmer, KG6RYB
