Chas, I have not seen the wasserfall jet, but you asked about the isolation transformrs. They are used to - break grounding loops. - stop near DC and VLF signals. The transformers are 1:1 audio transformers (types are mentioned in a lot of mails). You can try also transformers from old modems, but be sure to have always 2 of the same type, one in the R and one in the L signal path. You can put 2 transformers in the receive path (to line in audio card) and / or 2 in the transmit path (to line out of the audio card). Be sure to reset/recalibrate the SDR after installing. At what level do the different colors turn on? I now can see low level lines in my display that I couldn't see before in the Panadapter, or even in MixW waterfall display for that matter, and MixW has nine colors. I need to track down the lines and get rid of them or minimize them.
