Create a new database since you are using a new version of PowerSDR. Do not do an import.

It has to do with a major difference in the way the Kenwood commands interpret Split and the way the SDR1K/F5K actually work. A TS-2000 has two completely independent VFO's, you can transmit on A or B and receive on A or B. The FlexRadios always receive on A and can transmit on A or B. The temporary work around is to simply take the Flex out of Split mode before you use Spot Collector in simplex. You cannot take the radio out of split mode from Commander at this time. Dave and I will work this out as time permits. 73, Bob K5KDN -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of FireBrick Sent: Thursday, August 16, 2007 1:51 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; FlexRadio List Subject: Spam: [Flexradio] qsy with a previous split anomaly I've seen this twice today, and just tested it again. What if PowerSDR emitted CATlike commands, specifically things like frequency, when the user changes a parameter. As I understand it, something like a SteppIR controller, which needs to know frequency, polls the radio to ask it every second or so. If one had multiple devices that needed to know frequency, this could get pretty dicey, since there would need to be some sort of arbitration. But what if the radio broadcast it's frequency (and mode?) changes. Obviously, in a totally separated UI/Radio sort of architecture, this is pretty straightforward, since the UI would emit the "tune here" commands, and they would go to whoever needed to know it (i.e. the radio and the antenna). And, they'd presumably be in actual frequency, as opposed to some internal thing, like DDS frequency, although, this brings up some interesting questions if you have multiple subreceivers tuned to different places. Almost every program I have been involved in has become spaghetti-ized a bit as it developed. Most particularly when it involved a cutting edge in one area or another. A learning curve is in effect! SDR is certainly cutting edge and if the effect hasn't shown itself by now the programmers are even better than I recognize them to be. In several cases, people would report new bugs, Eric W and I would look, and we could find not one thing wrong. Eric would rebuild and the code would work as expected. We did several tests after wasting half a day looking for a "bug I introduced" into the Equalizer and meter and could not find a single thing done that related. Eric compiles, and it works. Then I remembered. A few nights ago I downloaded and installed the new Platform SDK from MS. That was the bug I introduced. It has replaced all of the interop libraries used by MS VS 2003. I was not smart enough to do it on one computer. I did it on every computer where I run MSVS 2003. They all generate broken, nearly working code. This cost us an entire day on getting 1.10 out the door. My apologies for my dumb mistake. If you work on Microslop with their broken tools, do not introduce their new bugs if you can help it. It's been a while since I last installed the platform sdk but I seem to remember it lets you choose the folder and then you hook your development environment to it via the above mentioned items. Of course this sounds too simple to be all there is to it;) If this is how it's set up you may just be able to reinstall the older sdk and point to that folder hierarchy instead. I am doing this using Apple's beta version of bootcamp posted on their website and Microsofts Vista Premium (though Vista Home should also work). I am running the Control Panel in the Normal Mode as opposed to Level 1 and most importantly I have TEMPORARY disabled in the Windows System Device Manager my ethernet controller (both wireless and cable). This latter move seems to have resolved all my issues with the console locking up. I am able to run at 192Khz with a buffer of 1024 . This is hardly a major inconvience if one is prepared not to use the internet at the same time as using the radio. In my case no problem because I have a second computer here I would appreciate knowing if anyone else has a success at interfacing their SDR to the Apple intel series of computers.. Ah! the pleasure of an iMac NO computer fan noise! Keeping my fingers crossed. Mike VE3BGE -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... When Platform SDK installs it has a big red X and asks are you really sure you want to change your environment variables. I MIGHT have been dumb and said, sure why not. I have uninstalled the Platform SDK Windows Server 2003 (R2) [this is supposed to cover Windows XP SP2 where the older platform SDK DID NOT as well as Vista]. It definitely broke the interop (link between languages in our case, between C and C#). I will uninstall MSVS Studio 2003 Enterprise-Architect provided to me by work and install it again and ALLOW IT to set the environment variables. Bob -- AMSAT Director and VP Engineering. The problem is that the listening device (tuner, antenna, rotor, etc.) doesn't know the radio's status until the user makes a change unless the using device also polls on startup or at some interval. The ability to broadcast should certainly be an option and one I've considered putting into the current CAT code since there are at least two logging programs I know of that require it. Along those same lines, I've been collecting data for the last couple of months, in support of a new external hardware device interface, on as many of the popular devices where I can find published interface data. It's a real mixed bag ranging from a custom command language on a dedicated serial interface to units that will accept every interface/command language that is currently used in amateur equipment. Sadly, almost all of the equipment out there today requires the use of a serial interface, just when we (and the mobo makers), thought it was going away. The interface could be an I2C to Serial converter on the FlexWire connector on a FLEX5000A or a computer hardware port on either the SDR1K or FLEX5000. There are a number of possibilities to be explored. Briefly, the approach I'm taking in my prototype code is to let the user assign external devices to ports and select any other ports that need to share information with that particular device and, if needed, in what order it is shared. An external XML library holds the translation information to get from what the device understands to a common command language in the software (the radio API). This external device interface talks to the radio via TCP. I had originally thought it might have to talk to CAT and then CAT would talk to the radio but I think the command set required for any one device is small enough to embed it in the translator library. Some of this code is working now, some is just a fig newton of my warped imagination. The TCP to Serial Bridge is working thanks to groundwork done much earlier by Phil Covington. The new, standalone CAT Server is working well enough to give me a warm fuzzy feeling that the concept is sound. The .NET 2.n+ serial port classes are working very well. I'm in the process of writing device emulators that run on my laptop so I can test the interface code. Progess is slow but it is happening. These are exciting times! 73, Bob K5KDN -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Jim Lux Sent: Thursday, August 16, 2007 4:18 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [Flexradio] CAT OUTput here's an idea..
