I ceased using the USB-parallel adapter on my sdr1k when I got off the laptop...
However, re: all USB-Serial adapters, I have noticed that most of them tend to find a "new and un-used" serial port to emulate every time they have the potential need. I wonder if your adapter now is calling itself LPT23 etc. or some such nonsense? I got windozed on a serial port adapter that had 17 (no exaggeration) aliases!
