I'm also using the SGC with my 5000A and it works very well. However, the
cost of the AGC amp is, sort of, the tip of the iceberg. It needs something
in the 90 amp range for peaks. I only have one power supply rated at 59 amp
continuous, 75 amp peak and I trip the amp fairly often. I'm going to have
to either get another power supply or add a 100 AH marine battery.

But it really is fool proof.

Subject: [Flexradio] Power Amp recommendation

I use a SGC 500 with my SDR-1000 as my "low power" power amp and an
Ameritron AL-1500 for my legal limit amp. The SGC is perfect for my
internet accessed
remote operation as the SGC is bullet proof with all of it's SWR
protection,
over temp protection and has automatic band change. I do use the PTT
control
line for the amp rather than automatic RF sense keying as it is faster. The

SGC is a little pricey for 500 watts out, but worth it. (With the Canadian
exchange being where it is right now, it will help).

I am very impressed with the New 5000A and have made 75 M contacts off
shore
and heard many European stations on 75 M (around 0200 UTC) however I
note
that the ATU is very noisy when hunting for a match and frequently requires
several tries ( using semi-automatic) before making a 1:1 (or better than
3:1) match.

What experience do others have?

Also I would like to increase my output power to at least 400W PEP what
do
others recommend for amplifiers with or without built in ATUs.
