When you mentioned that DPC's spike high upon shutdown it rang a bell. I had a 
similar problem with DPC's being unusually higher than any of my other machines 
and then someone on the reflector mentioned he had that problem with his 
Gigabyte motherboard. He mentioned that it was a known problem and he was 
running a beta BIOS. After researching it myself, I found that is was indeed a 
known problem suffered by especially those who stream audio and video. I too 
had to find and download a beta BIOS. Now my DPC's are low, the shutdown DPC 
spike problem is gone, and all is well. I am running a Gigabyte GA-P35 DS4 
motherboard but I understand that many of the various models of Gigabyte P35 
motherboards suffer from this problem. Just wonder if you by chance are running 
a Gigabyte P35?
