Brian, I have to agree with you...
Not having the auto tuner in the Recieve path would be a REAL good reason not to buy FlexRadio's internal tuner!! I've used an ICOM AH-4 for years with several radios including the SDR1K. (Built my own AH-4 controller.) Also our club uses an external auto tuner on our emergency wires. It also works gang busters!!! An additional advantage of an external tuner is your coax SWR is 1:1 minimizing the RX losses!!! Given your point on the high band receive which I totally agree with, it seems Flex has made a real design error.
