Brian,

Thank you for your well stated description of something most hams
don't
understand. In fact, the ARRL has a *300 page* book, "The ARRL RFI Book" on the subject and there are several excellent articles in our Knowledge Base.

Before I designed the SDR-1000, I bought a FT-847, which I still own. I had it connected to a copper rod above the desk through 1/2" copper braid, which
I later learned is very inductive. Inductance on a ground is not a good
thing. I used 1" braid to go from the copper pipe through PVC conduit to
the outside where it connected to a "single point" ground system with 2"
copper strap to ground.

After running that setup for awhile at 100W, all of a sudden I could not run
the radio above 50W without going to full RF feedback. If I stayed below
50W it was fine but above that, it would pin the meter. This went on for
some time because I was busy and did not have time to diagnose. Later for
who knows what reason, it just quit having the RFI problem.

Now I run a FLEX-5000 with a FireWire cable that is not as good as the one
we ship today. The radio is across the room from the wall conduit to the
outside
