Mark,
To add what Neil and Tim suggested, you might want to look at the Event
Viewer to see just what might have stopped before PowerSDR stopped
responding. Bet it might have been the some surge that might have the
12 dc going down differently from the computer, this can cause the FW
to loose connection and then PowerSDR stops. Another thing too is some
update or scheduled program might have kicked in to take resources from
PowerSDR, and make sure all timers are set to full on or high power
settings, things like USB Hubs, screen savers off, any power saving
that might be in BIOS turned off..
Hope some of this helps,

SDR 1.18.5, latest firmware. Flex 3000. Windows 7 ultimate.
I left the F3K running overnight. Came back to check on it today, and the
SDR screen was frozen. I clicked on STOP, and the Windows "Program has
Stopped Responding" message came up. I chose to terminate.
I waited a minute, then tried to restart. It says that an instance is
already running.
So I checked Task Manager, and sure enough there is an instance of
PowerSDR.exe running already. I tried to terminate from within Task
Manager, but nothing happens.
I tried "taskkill /f /im PowerSDR.exe" and I get the following message:
C:\Users\hamradio>taskkill /f /im PowerSDR.exe
ERROR: The process "PowerSDR.exe" with PID 13088 could not be terminated.
Reason: There is no running instance of the task.
Eventually, after 10 min, it did finally stop running.
Any suggestions on how to fix this without a reboot (since I will need to
stop and restart DX4Win, CW Skimmer, VSP Manager, DDUTIL, VAC, etc.
