THANKS to everyone who responded. Won't continue the thread any further! I am now better informed about USB3 and will be buying one of the suggested laptops with firewire.
BTW...My old Toshiba Tecra P4 internal firewire connection works fine with PSDR2 (except for the video 'freezing') which I blame on the fact that the laptop doesn't have any dedicated VRAM. I now have an even better 'excuse' to justify a new laptop...my 15-yo Cockatoo [who usually sits on the back of the shack chair most of the time] has just pulled 15 of the keypads off the laptop... I was able to recover all but 4 ...thankfully the ones not 'fixable' are the arrow keys! ...and I was only out of the shack for a few minutes getting a Pepsi! If anyone is a parrot-lover, visit QRZ and look up my call.
