I must admit, I was a little disappointed that QST insisted on putting my
name in the by-line as well as Frankie's and Sylvie's. Sure I spent a lot of
time with the kids on that article. (It went through something like 6
drafts! Sylvie coined the phrase, "the red pencil of death," to describe the
implement used on their drafts.) Teri should have gotten as much billing as
I did in that case. But that is what teachers do. Teri and I made sure that
their work was rigorous, correct, readable, and useful. The real kudos go to
a couple of kids who, even though their work was corrected over and over,
stuck with it until the end and produced a good work. And in the
end, perseverance is what prevails.
