As opposed to what other type/kind of kind of driver? [Tim] It is the old Vista driver. Win7 did a complete rewrite of the 1394 bus driver to support 1394a and 1394b. The left the old vista (legacy) driver in Win7 for compatibility. In addition to the bus driver, which communicates to the Firewire card itself, there are 1394 device drivers that communicate to the bus. 2. Is a 1394 bus driver different from a 1394 driver? [Tim] Depends on the context in how they are used, whether it be a bus or device. From a nomenclature standpoint, I usually refer to the device driver as the "Firewire driver" and the bus driver as the 1394 driver. 3. What is the Flex firewire driver? [Tim] The FLEX Firewire driver is a *device* driver that communicates with the 1394 Firewire bus How does it relate to a legacy, or other, driver. [Tim] See the answer for #1 I assume that Firewire driver and 1394 driver refer to the same thing. Is this correct? [Tim] Not necessarily. It is that context thing again. Differing names for the (possibly) same thing is confusing my 62 year old brain. While I used to be a Fortran IV and C programmer, the nuances of Windows (Microsoft) arcana and the required vocabulary and nomenclature is a bit daunting. If they all mean the same thing, is it possible to use consistent terminology? 73 and drowning in OS verbiage, Brad A.
